Why some plants attract snakes? 

There is an unusual connection between flora and fauna. Some animals have a specific preference about their habitat which includes only certain plants. Here is a list of some plants that snakes prefer.  

These are native grasses that offer coverage and a location for hunting tiny prey. 

Tall Fescue 

Their growth is thick and are tall, providing snakes protection against harsh weather and animals. These plants attract Garter Snakes, Corn Snakes 

Buffalo Grass 

 There are some species of water snakes which prefer the ideal setting provided by water plants like cattails. These plants are preferred by water snakes and cottonmouths 

Cattails

Plants like water lilies also attract water-based animals like frogs and fish, an abundance of which attract snakes for food.

 Plants like Agave and Saguaro Cactus grow in arid conditions, i.e. deserts, and therefore are preferred hiding places for desert snakes.

These plants have a complex structure which offer benefits like camouflaging and shade. For snakes like rattlesnakes and sidewinders these are the best places to inhabit.  

Ivy is a group of plants that act as both creepers and vines that attract snakes for which trees are their habitat. These offer an elevated ground for hunting.

 These plants provide pathways for rapid vertical mobility and vantage locations for monitoring prey. Green Tree Pythons and Vine Snakes prefer these plants.
