Do you feel sad and lethargic during winters? The sudden change in mood during the chilly season is termed as 'winter depression'.
Although it's very common, there is not much awareness about it. Winter depression is also known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). It usually starts in early winters or late fall.
The causes of SAD can be associated with less sunlight and shorter days.
Symptoms of SAD may include persistent sadness, anxiety, and lethargy.
One of the most effective ways to tackle winter depression is meditation. Allot yourself at least 15-30 minutes per day to meditate. It relaxes your mind and shields you against overthinking and anxiety.
Another way to combat SAD is engaging in hobbies, such as sports, dance, music, etc.
A few minutes of sun-soaking early in the morning also prepares you for the day, promoting mental health.
