You must have seen Lord Ganesh and Kartikeya while worshiping the Shiva family in the temple, but Lord Shiva's family was much larger.
According to mythological stories, Lord Shiva's sister was not born from her mother's womb, but rather due to Goddess Parvati's insistence.
According to the legends, after marrying Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati came to Mount Kailash, but she felt lonely and her mind could not settle.
Goddess Parvati then told Lord Shiva that if she had a sister-in-law (Shiva's sister), she would be able to talk to her and pass the time.
Lord Shiva asked Goddess Parvati, "Do you think you will be able to get along with my sister?" Upon hearing this, Goddess Parvati became upset with Lord Shiva.
Lord Shiva said, "I will call your sister-in-law." Saying this, Shiva created a goddess from his illusion (Maya) to act as his sister.
Lord Shiva told Goddess Parvati, "Your sister-in-law Asavari has arrived." Asavari Devi was very overweight, and her feet were cracked.
Asavari Devi thought of playing a prank on her sister-in-law. She hid Goddess Parvati in the cracks of her feet, causing Parvati to suffocate.
When Lord Shiva asked Asavari about Goddess Parvati, she laughed and stamped her foot on the ground, causing Goddess Parvati to fall out of the crack.
As soon as Goddess Parvati emerged, she said, "Quickly get my sister-in-law married and send her away."
After this, Asavari Devi was sent away from Kailash.
It is said that this was the beginning of the ongoing tiffs and small disputes between the relationships of the sister-in-law and the brother’s wife.
