Can dark chocolate lower diabetes risk? Know what experts have to say

Vaishali Shastri

A new study published in British Medical Journal finds out that eating dark chocolate in some proportion five times in a week is linked with lower risk of Type 2 diabetes.

The variation of sugar, milk and cocoa in different chocolates like dark, milk, and white impacts the risk of Type 2 diabetes.

The study says that consuming 28.3 grams of dark chocolate five times weekly may reduce the risk by 10%.

Dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa contains antioxidants like flavonoids.

This helps in lowering insulin resistance, lowering blood pressure, and reducing inflammation.

Dark chocolate also contains magnesium that aids in glucose metabolism.

Doctors also suggest that eating dark chocolate in larger quantity can lead to weight gain due to sugar and calories in it.

So, eating dark chocolate singularly and believing it to be very healthy can be a sweet sin, so pair it up with fibre-rich foods.
