Same-sex marriage is allowed in 34 countries. 

The Netherlands was the first nation to legalise same-sex marriage in 2001. 

India is among the 5 nations to watch for the adoption of marriage equality in 2023. The others are the Czech Republic, Japan, the Philippines and Thailand.

Australia, Switzerland and Ireland legalised same-sex marriage through Legalisation. 

Austria, Brazil, Columbia, Costa Rica, Mexico, etc legalised same-sex marriage through court decisions. 

Following court orders, South Africa and Taiwan passed laws legalizing same-sex unions.
