Liquor was very much liked among the Mughal emperors. But there was one princess who drank like a king.
The name of this princess was Jahanara who was theĀ eldest daughter of Emperor Shahjahan and Queen Mumtaz Mahal. She was also the elder sister of Aurangzeb.
It is said that Jahanara was Shahjahan's favorite daughter. She used to be 'the most powerful woman in the empire'.
Aurangzeb respected Jahanara for her intelligence and knowledge of running the administration.
Many historians believe that Jahanara was very fond of alcohol. Some documents describe her as an alcohol addict.
Despite being a Muslim woman and drinking alcohol, Jahanara did not have to face any kind of trouble from Aurangzeb or anyone else.
The French traveler who visited the Mughal court at that time had written that every meal at the royal banquet had to pass under the supervision of Jahanara.
