Saturn over Moon: How to spot, see Saturn’s rings

Chitresh Sehgal

A beautiful astronomical spectacle on view this weekend. Saturn will shine brightly above crescent moon.

You will have to rise early in the morning. The planet with rings will be above the moon.

Spot Saturn just above the horizon in east-southeast (ESE) direction. Look around 5 degrees above the moon.

Timing: An hour before sunrise on Sunday, April 16. See Saturn in 45-minute window of dark sky.

'Earthshine' - sunlight reflecting from Earth makes dark lunar surface visible with naked eye.

For best results, view with a pair of binoculars. To watch Saturn’s rings, view with a telescope.
