2024 T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20Is on Sunday.
It’s now going to be a big decision for the BCCI selectors as to who can fill Rohit Sharma’s shoes as T20I captain.
Here are potential contenders who can replace Rohit Sharma as India’s T20I captain.
India’s star all-rounder is the front-runner to assume the T20I captaincy role. He was named the vice-captain for India’s T20 World Cup 2024. Moreover, he also led Gujarat Titans to win the first IPL trophy in 2023 and is currently the captain of five-time IPL champion Mumbai Indians.

No.2 T20I batter in the world, Suryakumar Yadav has captained Team India in a five-match T20I series against Australia at home last year. Under his guidance, India also won the series by 4-1.

T20 World Cup Champion Rishabh Pant is currently the captain of Delhi Capitals in IPL. In June 2022, Pant was named as the Indian captain for the T20I series against South Africa. After Rohit’s retirement, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter can be a suitable choice to lead India full-time.
