Indian legends who retired after losing World Cup

Sunil Gavaskar is considered one of the greatest cricket players of all time. His final match for India was in the 1987 World Cup semi-final, where they were defeated by England in Mumbai.

Gavaskar had a successful cricket career that spanned 16 years, starting in 1971. He played in 125 Test matches and 108 ODIs. One of his biggest achievements was winning the 1983 World Cup.

Javagal Srinath's last game for Team India was the heartbreaking loss in the 2003 ODI World Cup final against Australia.

Srinath was a key player in India's pace attack during the 1990s, appearing in a total of 67 Tests and 229 ODIs for the national team.

Anil Kumble retired from the ODI format following India's humiliating group stage exit in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.

Kumble played a total of 269 ODIs and took 334 wickets for India. He continued to play Test cricket until October 2008.

MS Dhoni's final appearance for India was in the heartbreaking 2019 World Cup semi-final defeat against New Zealand. Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020.

Dhoni is one of the greatest cricketers to ever play for India, leading the country to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy.
