Several players in cricket history have dropped their retirement decision to play for their country once again in the World Cup.

Let’s have a look at the list of players who came out of retirement to play Cricket World Cup.

England’s star player Ben Stokes’ retirement from ODIs in 2022 came as a shock to cricket fans. However, he reversed his decision and returned to the squad. He further made his way to the English squad for the ODI World Cup 2023 hosted by India.

Former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan announced his retirement after the conclusion of World Cup 1987. However, when he was asked to join the team again by the then-Pakistani president Zia-ul-Haq, he reversed his decision. Later, he led Pakistan to win their first-ever ODI World Cup title in 1992.

Former India cricketer Javagal Srinath is one of the greatest seamers in cricket history. In 2002, Srinath announced his sudden retirement. However, Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly wanted him by his side for the 2003 World Cup. So, he reversed his retirement decision and played for India in the 2003 World Cup.

Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo announced retirement from international cricket in 2018. However, during the fall of 2019, Bravo reversed his decision in preparation for the 2020 T20 World Cup, which was further postponed until 2021. He finally retired after the conclusion of 2021 T20 World Cup campaign.

On Sunday, Pakistan star bowler Mohammad Amir also reversed his retirement decision, making himself available for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup.
