Vegetarian foods with more iron than spinach

Jaisal Kaur

Apricots is a great food for vegetarians to fulfil their iron needs, and also vitamin C requirements, which helps the body absorb iron.

Lentils contain more than three mg of iron per half cup, and protein, too. Also, its high fibre content improves gut health, which in turn promotes absorption of all the minerals.

Chia seeds also contain quite a bit of iron: two mg in a quarter-cup.

Hemp seeds of the hemp plant are another great iron option for vegans as they give you 2 mg in a quarter-cup.

Amaranth is a rich source of iron and minerals, and also contains magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium.

Cashews have the most iron content among nuts- 2 mg per quarter-cup.

Beans contain fibre, folate, and 2 to 4 mg of iron per half cup.
