Miss World pageant, one of the oldest international beauty contests, is being held in India this year, starting from Delhi and culminating in Mumbai on March 9th.

The tradition of crowning the winner with a tiara didn't begin at the inception of the competition. Initially, winners were awarded a book standing atop the podium.

The tradition of crowning with a tiara started in 1955. Since then, the design of the crown has undergone several changes.

The current design, resembling the one from 1972, has been in use since 1978. It is estimated to cost around $750,000.

The replica of the current Miss World crown showcases exquisite craftsmanship and beauty.

It stands at 4.3 inches tall and features an adjustable band. Adorned with stones like sapphire blue and turquoise, it adds to its elegance, resembling "char chand" (four moons), as described in the Economic Times report.

The price of this tiara is reported to be INR 6 crores 21 lakhs.

Manushi Chhillar from India won the Miss World crown in 2017, marking India's sixth victory in the competition.

The 71st Miss World pageant is being hosted in India, featuring 120 contestants from around the world, including Sini Shetty, Femina Miss India World 2022.
