The Indian national flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya, an Indian freedom fighter and a fervent follower of Mahatma Gandhi.
Pingali Venkayya was a scholar who had a deep understanding of the history, cultures, and flags of various countries, which greatly influenced his design.
The flag was initially conceived by Venkayya in 1921, during the session of the Indian National Congress at Bezwada (now Vijayawada).
Mahatma Gandhi suggested the inclusion of the charkha (spinning wheel) as a symbol of self-reliance and the Swadeshi movement, which Venkayya incorporated.
The original flag designed by Venkayya had two colors—red and green—representing the two major communities, Hindus and Muslims. Later, white was added to represent peace and other communities.
The design underwent several changes over time, with the final version being adopted by the Constituent Assembly on July 22, 1947, just before India's independence.
The final version of the flag includes three horizontal stripes—saffron, white, and green—with a navy blue Ashoka Chakra (wheel) with 24 spokes in the center.

Pingali Venkayya is honored as the creator of the Indian national flag, and his contribution is commemorated in Indian history, though he lived in relative obscurity after independence.fresh leaves.
