Both the BJP and the Congress appear to have placed their trust in royalty to help them win the fierce electoral battle in Rajasthan. Here are six royal family members contesting.

The former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who married into the Dholpur royal family, is at the forefront of the BJP.

She herself is descended from the Gwalior royal family in Scindia. She is running against Prem Bairwa of Congress from Jhalarapatan seat.

Jaipur princess Diya Kumari, the current Rajsamand MP, is the other member of the royal family that receives the most attention.

In 2013, she was initially elected as a Sawai Madhopur MLA. She is competing against Sitaram Agarwal of the Congress, for Vidyadhar Nagar seat.

Princess Siddhi Kumari of Bikaner, a member of the Bikaner royal family, has served as an MLA for three terms starting in 2008. She is running against Congress' Yashpal Gehlot from Bikaner (East).

Another royal, Kalpana Devi, has been placed by the BJP from the Ladpura seat, which is in the Hadoti region. Ijyaraj Singh, a Kota royal scion who served as the Congress MP for the Kota-Bundi constituency in 2009, is married to Kalpana Devi.

Mewar royal descendant Vishvaraj Singh Mewar is running for office from Nathdwara as BJP candidate.
