Army Day in India is celebrated on January 15 each year and it honours the Indian Army and its role in safeguarding the nation . In 2025, the occasion will commemorate the service . Here are some interesting facts about the military force :

 The Indian Army was formed in 1766 in Kolkata under the government of East India Company ( British Government) .

During the first world war, a total number of 1.3 million soldiers of Indian soldiers fought from the Britishers side and 74,000 soldiers lost their lives . The India Gate Memorial in Delhi stands as a tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the war .

The Indian Army is the world's second largest standing all volunter army in the world after China's with more than 1.2 million active troops and 0.9 million reserve troops .

 Indian Army controls the Siachen Glacier , the world's highest battlefield at an altitude of over 20,000 feet , it is also the second largest glacier in  non polar regions .

The 61st Cavalry Regiment is one of the largest horse mounted cavalry units in the Indian Army . Also it is the last operational horse cavalry units in the world .

India is among the largest contributor of active duty personnel to the UN Peacekeeping missions . Around 6000 uniformed personnel are deployed around the world for the missions .
