Biggest box office clashes on Diwali in Tamil cinema

The festive season of Diwali sees high footfalls and revenues in cinemas across India with the biggest films releasing this weekend.
There have been huge box office clashes during the Diwali weekend in Tamil cinema. In these clashes, some films have turned out to be blockbusters, while some have turned out to be super flops.
This year, Karthi-starrer heist action comedy Japan and Karthik Subbaraj-directed period action comedy Jigarthanda DoubleX will clash with each other this week.
In 2022, Sivakarthikeyan's romantic comedy Prince and Karthi's spy thriller Sardar released during Diwali. The latter earned more than double of what the former earned at the box office globally.
Vijay's Bigil and Karthi's Kaithi were released during the Diwali weekend n 2019. While the former emerged as the highest-grossing film of the year, the latter gave birth to LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe).
Dhanush's political action thriller Kodi and Karthi's horror masala film Kaashmora were released together in the 2016 Diwali weekend. Both the films performed well at the box office.
Vijay's Thuppakki and Silambarasan TR's Podaa Podi were released on Diwali in 2012. The action thriller proved to be a blockbuster, but the romantic drama was failure.
